PROJECT 001 / IN DEVELOPMENT
Meet JARVIS.
An engineering assistant with a brain, a voice and eventually a body.
THE IDEA
What if I built my own engineering assistant?
JARVIS started with a simple idea: build something that could help me with real engineering problems.
The first step is developing reliability engineering tools using Python, including calculations for MTBF, MTTR, availability and OEE.
But I don't want it to stop there. My long-term goal is to give JARVIS conversational abilities, a personality and eventually a physical robotic body.
Part industrial engineering assistant. Part expressive desktop companion. Entirely a learning adventure.
FROM CODE TO COMPANION
The development roadmap .
Open a phase to explore the plan and related build logs. Milestones below describe planned work; completed results will be added as they are documented.
CURRENT FOCUS The Brain Building Python-based reliability tools and developing the foundations of the engineering assistant. Python / MTBF / MTTR / OEE
The aim
Start with one useful calculation whose inputs, assumptions and result I can explain. Build confidence in the foundations before adding more capabilities.
Planned milestones
- Define the inputs, units and assumptions for the first calculation.
- Build a small Python implementation.
- Compare the output with worked examples and check awkward inputs.
Next step
Define the first calculation and prepare a worked example with explicit units and an expected answer.

PLANNED The Voice Exploring speech recognition, conversational AI and spoken responses so I can communicate with JARVIS naturally. Speech / AI / Conversation
The aim
Explore a conversational interface that can explain the engineering tools clearly and ask for missing information.
Planned milestones
- Define a simple question-and-answer workflow.
- Explore speech input and spoken responses.
- Check how the assistant handles unclear requests.
Next step
Once the calculation foundations are ready, choose a small conversation to prototype.

LONG-TERM GOAL The Body Designing a physical desktop robot with a screen, expressive personality, electronics and custom-made components. CAD / 3D Printing / Electronics
The aim
Give the assistant a physical desktop presence, bringing together enclosure design, electronics and an expressive display.
Planned milestones
- Sketch an enclosure and display concept.
- Identify the electronics and physical constraints.
- Build and evaluate an initial desktop prototype.
Next step
When the software direction is clearer, sketch the form and define what the first physical prototype needs to do.
